Loïck Peyron is one of the world's absolute favorite sailors. This charismatic Frenchman has done it all—from winning the Trophée Clairefontaine on a one-design 7.5 m (25') cat, to his Jules Verne Trophy winning world-record performance with Banque Populaire V, to his current role as a helmsman with Artemis Racing for the upcoming America's Cup.
In this interview, Loïck talks about Banque Populaire and what it took to set a record in the Jules Verne. He emphasized that even though everything is done right—a great boat, a terrific team, and the best equipment—Lady Luck often has plans of her own, making these record shattering events few and far between.
