Harken UK has recently supplied a number of our award winning innovative 'switch track' batten car systems to Formula Spars and Oyster Marine.
The mainsail batten car system automatically cuts the stack height in half by flaking the sail alternately to port and starboard.
We supplied a 32mm system to Formula Spars in Autumn 2005 for the new mast built for the 100-footer Ripple.
Oyster Marine have recently completed their second Oyster 56 to feature the Harken 26mm Switch system.
They also sucessfully used a 26mm switch system on the first Oyster 72, launched early last year
This system was first developed on the mighty Mirabella as the standard stack height was over 7 metres—simply impossible to get a mainsail cover over it! It has now been 'down-sized' to 26mm and 32mm sizes, suitable for up to 80- and 170-foot yachts respectively. A 22mm system is currently on the drawing board now. This will bring the many advantages of this innovative design to be used on yachts as small as 40-feet.
