Is there a mentor, role model or some other key figure in your life who has
significantly impacted your sailing?
Kevin Burnham: Steve Benjamin introduced me to the 470 in 1975. He taught me how to fly
a kite, trapeze and the fundamentals of racing. I have had the pleasure of sailing with many good people
who have helped me get this far. Thanks to all!
Paul Foerster:The people who most affected my sailing were my dad and my high school basketball coach. They both taught me the importance of hard work.
What is it you find most fun or rewarding about this sport?
KB: The friendships I have made through sailing are fantastic. The team concept that comes along with
this can be applied throughout a lifetime. I am forever grateful to the sport of sailboat racing and
enjoy every moment of it!
Is there another side to you that you'd like to share with our readership?
PF: Most people don't realize that Kevin and I had regular jobs back in the USA when we were training
for the Olympics. After doing a regatta in Europe, we would come home and go back to work.
Do you have any feedback or thoughts on Harken and McLube™products?
KB: We used McLube™on our boat wherever there was friction. I coated my entire spinnaker bag and kite. I used it on the jaws of the spinnaker pole and the ends of my spinnaker sheets so the guy would slam forward
through the pole on tight reaches. Before using McLube™, I cannot tell you how many times I had to push the pole
forward.
