MKIV Under-Deck Furling

Flush-Mounted Tack Offers Clean Furling
Pewaukee, WI—Harken Yacht Equipment introduced its latest furler designed for performance- oriented sailboats. Built with the same quality materials found in Harken’s performance MKIII and MKIV furling systems, the MKIV Under-Deck furler mounts beneath the deck to minimize windage and provide a clean, uncluttered bow with easy anchor access. The tack of the sail sits at deck level, allowing wind to flow smoothly across the sail for efficient forward power and more precise headsail shape.

“Builders came to us looking for a clean and simple deck layout solution that reduces clutter,” comments Harken New Products Manager Dan Rondeau. “With multiple free-rolling ball races and a compact drum, the MKIV Under-Deck Furler provides a low-friction, efficient, and elegant furling option for sailors looking to clear their deck and gain an edge.”

The MKIV Under-Deck Furler features a unique threaded height adjuster belowdecks, which enables precise positioning of the drum. The headstay disconnects from a toggle at deck level, leaving the lower unit’s small-diameter drum in place for easy servicing and mast stepping. A foil universal joint allows ample headstay sag when sailing downwind. The Under Deck furlers also feature as standard the Harken independent halyard swivels for furling the sail’s center before the head and tack for improved sail shape and upwind pointing. The aerodynamic foil and stainless steel feeder have double sail grooves to allow fast hoists, douses, and sail changes. Two rows of ball bearings between the center hub and deck bearing provide low-friction furling and minimize water entry into the under-deck compartment.

The MKIV Under-Deck Furler is available in size 1 for boats 28’-36’ (8.3-11 m), size 2 for boats 35’-46’ (10.6-14.2 m), and size 3 for boats 45’-60’ (13.7-18.3 m).
