Harken 40 mm Tall Wide ULC Loop Block #C8488 |
Pewaukee, Wisconsin—Harken introduces the ULC (Ultra Light Composite) Loop block to its line. This compact block uses many of the same concepts developed in the 40 mm-wide loop block used on Transpac 52s as a floating block for athwartship jib systems. With a remarkably high strength-to-weight ratio, applications include tack-line leads, barber-haulers, floating athwartship blocks, mast-base halyard leads.
”This block will be a workhorse on any large yacht which has to handle highly-loaded lines,” said Harken custom engineer Ethan Brown. “Its loop attachment makes it very versatile in terms of where it can be used."
Hardkote-anodized cheeks made of 6061-T6 aluminum house the sheave and keep it aligned relative to loads. The aluminum sheave, with snap-fit Torlon® ball bearings for thrust loads, has a Teflon®-impregnated ULC bearing which rides on a heat-treated 17-4 PH stainless steel inner race. The soft attachment loop is lightweight and durable with a Spectra® cover and Dyneema® core. It provides the primary load-bearing strength for the block and helps the block articulate, creating a fair lead.
