Harken Puts own twist on Electronic controls
Harken Revolving Control Switches bring a new twist to the safe operation of electrically powered yacht systems such as winches, furlers, and windlasses. Their unique design features a cover that rotates to either expose the operational buttons or hide them for fail-safe protection against accidental activation. Integrated lighting offers additional safety by providing visibility at night for identification of control location and mode. The switches come in single- and dual-function models.
"The new covers have integrated lighting to make these switches safer and better for use at night," explains lead designer Pietro Binda, "The cover of the single-function switch doubles as a selector for finger or foot operation, while the dual-function model combines two switches into one to conserve space."
The single-function switch can be adjusted so only a finger-sized button is accessible or so the entire cover acts as the button when pressed by foot or the palm of a hand. In off mode, the switch will hold the person's full weight without activating.
Dual-function switches take up only half the deck space of similar single controls. They are a compact and intuitive solution for furlers, 2-speed winches, and up/down anchor controls.
The design does not use a top lid to open for operation, allowing installation vertically or close to cockpit corners. Switches use an adhesive mounting system for fast installation. Three finishes will be available: black plastic, faux-carbon plastic, and polished stainless steel.
