Harken Australia has named Andrew "Jacko" Jackson as technical consultant/special projects advisor to the company.
As head of his own project management business, Horizon Yachting Pty. Ltd., Jackson will specialize in developing Harken custom gear and designing deck layouts for both racing and cruising yachts being constructed or retrofitted in the Asiatic region. Current Harken Australia projects under Jackson's management include the Farr maxi Leopard 3, and the Reichel/Pugh-designed grand-prix racers Yendys and Rima. Yendys will compete in the 2006 Rolex Sydney Hobart. Rima is under construction at the McConaghy Yards in Sydney and China.
Jackson brings enormous experience to his new position. He has been involved in the international yachting industry for over 16 years repairing, constructing, and equipping yachts of all types and sizes. An experienced racer and cruiser, Jackson has competed in 14 Rolex Sydney to Hobart races (the first in 1991 aboard the maxi yacht Apollo), as well as numerous Blue Water Classics. Jackson's work on a variety of superyachts has taken him from the Pacific to the Mediterranean Sea. Before forming Horizon Yachting in 2004, Jackson spent ten years as manager of the maxi yacht Brindabella.
"To further strengthen our strong team at Harken Australia, it is a pleasure to welcome Andrew onboard, " said Managing Director, Carl Watson.
"His skills and knowledge will further cement Harken's commitment to providing our customers with great service in an expanding portfolio."
