Harken Rethinks the Status Quo
Pewaukee, WI—As part of the complete range of hydraulic systems being introduced,
Harken is offering a new line of low-profile hydraulic control valves and manifolds.
In classic Harken style, performance and weight were attacked when designing these
valves which are half the weight of most current designs.
Harken’s single-acting, double-acting, and remote release valves
can be used with any new or existing hydraulically controlled system. Sculpted Grand Prix versions are aboard TP52s like Artemis and
Quantum Racing, winner of the 2008 Audi Med Cup and TP52 World Championship.
“Designs for valves and manifolds for hydraulic systems haven’t changed in years,”
said Hydraulics Manager, Robbie Young. “Starting with a clean sheet of paper,
Harken engineers used new materials and technologies to make some dramatic changes.
Not only have we reduced the weight of these systems by 50 percent, but each valve can independently limit power to accommodate the maximum working loads of the hardware in each system.”
Grand Prix valves and manifolds handle up to 10,000 psi while standard parts are designed for up to 5,000 psi. Single-and double-sided manifolds accommodate up to 9 valves, each with its own pressure relief valve. This allows sailors to individually limit power to the maximum working loads of hardware operating mast and sail controls. An integrated adjustable control mechanism in each valve fine-tunes the speed of release.
Valve handles fit in any of four directions so valves inverted on double-sided manifolds have the same open/closed positions and rotation direction. An adjustable tapered socket ensures a secure, tight fit.
Remote release valves let you ease sail controls from key positions like the helm or rail.
Opened by pull-cord or push button, use the valve as a full-flow quick release or add an adjustable flow control to slow release speed.
3-micron10,000-psi filters protect hydraulic equipment and reduce maintenance costs.
Valve seal and repair kits are available worldwide.
