Pewaukee, WI—Harken introduces the new snatch block range in its specialized custom product offering. These compact blocks come in four sizes (2.3 Ton, 5 Ton, 8 Ton, and 12 Ton) and use many of the same concepts developed for Harken’s 40 mm-wide loop block. All Snatch Block sideplates pivot open, making it easy to attach to an active rigged line. They excel in static line applications that require small adjustments such as tack-line leads, barber-haulers, floating athwartship blocks, mast-base halyard leads, or other places that need blocks attached quickly.

"These blocks are workhorses on any large yacht or grand prix racer which has to handle highly loaded lines,” said Harken custom engineer Ethan Brown. “Its loop attachment makes it very versatile in terms of where it can be used. Its simple operation will allow crews to easily place it wherever it is needed."

Harken’s Hardkote-anodized sideplates are made of 6061-T6 aluminum, housing the sheave and keeping it aligned relative to loads. The aluminum sheave has a Teflon®-impregnated ULC (Ultra-Light Composite) bearing which rides on a heat-treated 17-4 PH stainless steel inner race. Snap-fit Torlon® ball bearings handle thrust loads. The sideplate pivots around the sheave axis allowing the block to open and line to be placed around the sheave. A hook-and-loop strap holds the block closed once sideplates are realigned.

The soft attachment LOUP™ is lightweight and durable with a Spectra® cover and Dyneema® core. It provides the primary load-bearing strength for the block and helps the block articulate, creating a fair lead.
