Pewaukee, WI—Harken ‘s new belowdecks and in-boom hydraulic sheeting system can quickly trim and ease heavily loaded jibs and mainsails on yachts from 40 ft (12 m) to100 ft (30.4 m) megayachts. With reverse purchases of 1:4 and 1:6, this compact system is extremely efficient, operates with the push of a button, and has the added benefit of eliminating extra line and equipment clutter both above and belowdecks.
“This push-button sailing system solves the problem of winches that tail line into the
cockpit, and eliminates clutter on deck,” said Hydraulics Manager, Robbie Young.
“HydroTrim cylinders are specially designed for long life and easy servicing, with replacement parts like seals available worldwide.”
The large-diameter sheave typical of most belowdecks and in-boom trimming systems was replaced with two smaller low-friction sheaves to reduce the overall length of the cylinder assembly. The control line blocks are attached to the cylinder ends with one pin, making maintenance and service quick and easy. The cylinder can be taken off without removing any rigging. Conversely, the block ends can be detached for service without removing the cylinder.
Cylinders feature Hardkote-anodized 6061-T6 aluminum housing and 6061-T6 aluminum rods with graphite-filled, low-friction Teflon® seals to greatly extend their operational life over more commonly used polyurethane materials. As the cylinder moves, bronze-filled Teflon® piston seals provide high-wear strength and reduced drag. Performance O-rings and slant springs in the seals provide consistent seal pressure for a reliable long-lasting fit.
