Harken has introduced a product to the racing keelboat sailor that is a step forward in headsail foils: the Harken #7001 and # 7002 Carbo Racing Foil offer a superior design and significant materials advances over the PVC commonly used in similar racing foils.
"By using modern engineering resins instead of commodity plastics we have raised the bar," said Greg Hartlmeier, Senior Engineer-Special Projects. "The Carbo materials in these twin-grooved foils are stronger than PVC and extremely lubricious. Racing sailors will love them - it will not be a difficult decision to change over to Carbo Racing Foil."
The foil's Carbo material is very low friction for fast hoists, douses and sail changes. Its high strength dramatically increases resistance to line wear. Impact resistance is also increased with less foil damage from spinnaker poles, especially in cold weather. The black additive in the foil material provides no-fade UV protection and is easy to see against a light sky, while complementing modern sailcloth colors. The prefeeder form-fits to the bottom tube, and features Hardkote-anodized, Teflon®-impregnated aluminum rollers that spin freely on low-friction bushings for fast hoisting. The #7006 prefeeder, feeder and trim cap are polished investment-cast 316 stainless steel for strength and durability.
Installation is simple. The foil easily unrolls and snapping the foil onto the stay is an easy task and can be done with the mast up. Harken Carbo Racing Foils fit boats with headstays to 5/16 in (8 mm) or rods to -17 and boats with headstays of 3/8" (10 mm) or rods to -25 (10.31 mm).
