3868 System C Battcar |
Pewaukee, Wisconsin—Harken has upgraded its System C Battcars to feature its popular captive ball bearing (CB) technology. Stainless steel wire guides recirculate ball bearings smoothly and hold them captive when the car is off the track. The System C features free-rolling ball bearings and Hardkote-anodized, one-piece aluminum cars, making it quick and simple to hoist, drop and reef sails in any conditions.
“We are pleased to be able to expand the CB design in order to complete our Battcar line,” said Harken engineer, Ken Lange. “The captive ball feature makes it easy for sailors to load and unload cars during installation and maintenance on larger-sized keelboats.”
Aluminum web-on headboard plates make the system easy for sailmakers to install. The plate is mounted to a dual car to share leech loads during reefing. Intermediate luff cars also use the captive ball bearing configuration. Tracks mount to most masts using a unique slug system that allows drill-free mast-up installation.
System C Battcars fit boats in the 60 to 90ft (18-27m) range. Currently Wild Oats XI, Ocean Leopard 3 and Skandia all use Harken System C Battcars. Cars come with a 12mm or 14mm threaded stud that fit a variety of batten receptacles. To take off the mainsail, push the quick-release button, pull out the captive pin and remove the sail.
