Harken has added the #3095 75 mm Straphead Double to its growing family of Big Boat AirBlocks®. At a lightweight 19.2 oz (545 g), this strong, versatile block is ideal for boom-end 2:1 mainsheet systems on race boats like the Farr 40 and TP52. It attaches onto the boom with webbing or soft attachment LOUPS™ and can be reeved perpendicular or parallel to the boom. Straps articulate under load and offer significant weight savings.
"By eliminating the stainless shackle, blocks that are webbed on or attached with LOUPS fit closer to the boom," said Dan Rondeau, new products manager. "This is a feature cockpit crews really appreciate," he said. "Furthermore, the blocks are more prone to articulate to loads with soft attachments, maximizing the bearings' efficiency. In this situation, a LOUPS attached block is simply a better performing, lighter block than one with a shackle.
"Like all AirBlocks, Straphead Doubles have low-friction caged Torlon® roller bearings. Aluminum sheaves and sideplates are deep-saturation Hardkote-anodized for strength and durability, and UV stabilized with a black additive
for maximum protection.
