December -Auckland, New Zealand—Harken Yacht Equipment has named Garry Lock managing director of Harken New Zealand. Previously known as Fosters, this recent acquisition represents a shift in distribution from an independent distributor, to a Harken-owned operation. Fosters skilled staff was retained by Harken and under Lock's management will continue to expand the company's presence in the Pacific region, while providing customers with the technical and customer support Foster's was known for.
Garry comes to us with vast organizational, technical and sailing skills," said President Peter Harken. "The experience he's gained throughout his working and sailing career will facilitate the growth of Harken New Zealand. Garry is a great addition to the Harken team."
Before joining Harken New Zealand, Lock was a 15-year employee of Cookson Boatbuilders where he managed project logistics including costing, budget analysis during the build, material and equipment purchases, and customer liaison. Previous to Cookson, Lock was technical manager of Samson Paints, general manager of Samson Goldex Coatings and general manager of Hardie Irrigation, New Zealand.
Lock is an experienced keel boat and dinghy racer. He has competed in numerous Kenwood Cup's, six Sydney Hobart's and numerous other regattas in the Asiatic region. He has also won national and interdominion titles in OK Dinghies and raced Finns and Lasers at both Senior and Master levels. Currently, Lock is part owner of the 37 ft wooden keelboat, Namu.
