LANGUAGE SKILLS:

GENERAL BACKGROUND: Prior substantial experience in an international manufacturing/sales corporation with major facilities in USA and Italy as Senior HR Professional. A specific background in blending a corporate culture into a number of different national locations with effective results necessary. Knowledge of the HR laws of many countries with emphasis on the US and Italy is a high priority.

This person must quickly earn the respect of all Harken Managing Directors and become a resource for ideas and planning in the HR area. This person must be a good listener, prompt with creative solutions, consistent with approaches that are effective, and carry forth the Harken image and its Weather Mark Goals.
TRAVEL: Travel out of the "home office" at least half of the time in the first three years. Secondary residence arrangements may be required in either Italy or USA. Must be realistic with travel budgets.

DESCRIPTION: Harken is the world leader in developing and manufacturing hardware, winches, and canvas products used in the sailboat industry. The position reports to the Manufacturing/Quality Control Manager and will focus on quality assurance and process improvements throughout the entire manufacturing operation which includes Assembly, Packaging, Injection Molding, Metal Polishing, Machine Shop, and Canvas areas. Experience in one or more of the above operations is a plus.
This person will direct activities to analyze production methods and identify areas for improvements in safety, quality, workflow/productivity, cost-effectiveness, and waste-reduction. The position will be responsible to develop, implement and improve the documentation for set-up, operations, standards, sampling, inspection/testing, and training and will develop, write, and implement training to make and sustain the improvements listed above.
REQUIREMENTS: The candidate should possess BS in Engineering, and/or Certified Quality Manager (CQM), and/or Certified Quality Engineer (CQM), with a history of progressive responsibilities for process improvement experience in a job shop environment. He/she must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with all levels of employees and able to effectively coach on elements of quality and process improvements.
The ideal candidate will have experience working under a Six Sigma Black Belt and/or Lean Champion in devising, training, and implementing various quality and process improvement initiatives. He/she will be able to demonstrate leading projects that utilize the Six Sigma DMAIC improvement process including Gage R&R. The position requires effective utilization of the Lean Manufacturing tools of 5S, poka-yoke / error proofing, Quick Changeover / SMED, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). The ability to Value-Stream Map and Kaizen Workshops would be considered a big plus. This person should be able to lead teams to accomplish the goals.
The position requires familiarity with ISO 9000-3 standards and certification process. Also required are strong interpersonal / communication skills in written, verbal, and electronic forms. Intermediate to advanced skill levels are required in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Some international travel required.
Physical and drug screen are mandatory.
