Pewaukee, WI—after winning the 2010 America's Cup with Harken on board, ORACLE TEAM USA has chosen Harken as its winch, deck hardware, and hydraulic supplier for the 2013 America's Cup.
This is Harken's fourth consecutive America's Cup with the team, going back to its first challenge in 2003. Harken will engineer and manufacture carbon racing winches, carbon pedestals, gearboxes, titanium TTR2 blocks, TTR2 sheaves, hydraulic valves, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic manifolds, and hydraulic rotary pumps for ORACLE TEAM USA's AC72s.
"Harken's first-class custom gear and reliable engineering were a critical asset to our 2010 win and are key to our defense," said CEO Russell Coutts. "We look forward to the innovation Harken will bring ORACLE TEAM USA and we are already testing new ideas on the water."
Harken supplied the team with carbon racing winches, TTR blocks, Black Magic® Loop blocks, and sheaves for the platform and wing during the last America's Cup. Harken's ultra-lightweight and efficient hydraulics range have been selected again for use on the 72ft wingsailed catamarans being built to meet ORACLE TEAM USA's objective of winning again. Harken hydraulics debuted in 2008 and are now at work on everything from TP52s and Volvo Open 70s to 170-foot megayachts and production cruising yachts.
Harken is currently supplying all existing 34th America's Cup teams.
