Pewaukee, WI—Harken adds a hot new look to the ultimate in big boat blocks. Since the mid-1990s, Harken Black Magic® AirBlocks® have become the favored choice of big boat performance racers and cruisers. The new Black Magic blocks have swapped the sculpted sideplates of its predecessors for ones with the sculpted lines and smooth surfaces reflecting the style of the Harken’s 2011 DAME-nominated T2™ blocks. Building on the legacy of the originals, the sideplates are cut from solid aluminum, hardcoat-anodized, UV-stabilized, and finished with new branding to give the Black Magic line its hot new look.
“We have restyled our tried-and-true line of Black Magic AirBlocks to mirror the T2™ series,” said USA Sales Manager, Jim Andersen. “The combination of the sculpted lines of the sideplates and high-tech engineering performance makes these new Black Magic blocks a modern addition to any yacht.”
The blocks run on strong Torlon® roller bearings held separate and parallel in a center cage that provides superior efficiency to uncaged rollers. Ball bearings on either side of the sheave keep the block running smoothly under side loads. Shackles can be set to swivel or to lock in two positions. Dissimilar metals are isolated to minimize corrosion. They can still be completely disassembled with an Allen wrench, making them very easy to clean and service.
Black Magic AirBlocks are available in 57, 75, 100, 125, and 150 mm sizes, with low-load versions in the 57 and 75 mm ranges and soft attachment options for all sizes. Soft-attachment loop blocks are secured through the center of the sheave, providing an extra measure of security. They feature a removable dead-end post for attachment to a closed padeye. Lashings may also be used.
