Pewaukee, WI—The new Harken Captive Reel Winch line has expanded to include models with Maximum Working Loads of 1.5, 3, 6, 9, 12, 16, and 18 tons. Designed to control halyards and sheets on boats 19 m (60 ft) and up, intensive development and rigorous testing programs at Harken Italy have created a powerful captive winch that is 10 to 20% smaller in size than similarly configured winches.
“We took a close look at the captives on the market and looked for ways to make them better,” said Engineering Manager, Michele Cazzaro. “We redesigned the feeder transmission with twin feeder screws to balance the load. By using a double instead of a single screw design we could position the screws closer to the drum, reducing the weight of our captives over similarly configured winches.”
All hydraulic and electric circuitry connections, screw bearings, and gear transmission are accessible from the same side of the winch for easy line size changes, inspection, and maintenance. The lightweight line tensioner features a compact motor and hose connection that converts for three mounting options: underdeck mounting, deck mounting, or on its side for through-deck mounting.
Custom solutions for higher loads are available.
