John Street, retired managing director of Fosters and a
Harken Distributor since 1978, credits the success of his company to New Zealand's passion for yachting and the superb sales and servicing efforts of his experienced and enthusiastic staff. On Fosters 100th anniversary year, Harken is proud to carry on the development of this outstanding company as Harken New Zealand. John is has retired from active company management, but will be on hand to ensure a seamless transition into the Harken organization. He has also agreed to serve on the Harken New Zealand Board of Directors.

Alex Foster forms company in 1907
A. Foster & Co. Ltd. was started in 1907 by Alexander Fraser Foster, a marine engineer on New Zealand's steam-run commercial cargo ships. Operating his part-time business while in port, Alex's shop was in a small building adjacent to the shipyards and repair slipways where the wooden trading scows were built.
