Looking for great competition? Nothing beats the Farr 40. What makes these fast, user-friendly one-designs unique is they must be skippered by non-professional owner-drivers, with a strict limit on the number of professional crew. This has assured competitors a level playing field and fair sailing at regional, national, and international events.
Harken East’s Jim Andersen is a class measurer and helped with the development of the boat, class, and one-design rules while employed by the original builder, Carroll Marine. In August, 2003, US Watercraft took over the job, adding 35 Farr 40s to today’s active 150-boat fleet that sees 30 to 40 boats at world championships.
Jim Andersen and Oakley Jones from Harken East will be measuring at the 2008 Rolex Farr 40 World Championships (April 16-19) in Miami Beach, Florida. They will also staff the Harken trailer, making sure Harken blocks, travelers, Carbo Racing foils, and Quattro utility winches are in tip-top racing shape.
