SCHOONER ATLANTIC
Twenty-six Harken winches of gleaming bronze will grace the deck of Dutchman Ed Kastelein’s schooner ATLANTIC, a magnificent replica of the giant 69.24 m ( 227 ft) three-masted vessel designed by William Gardner in 1903. Kastelein, a renowned restorer and builder of racing schooners worked with copies of original drawings to recreate the lines of ATLANTIC which achieved yachting immortality in 1905 by winning the New York to England Transatlantic Race (Kaiser Cup). Helmed by three-time America’s Cup winner, Charlie Barr, ATLANTIC’s monohull record of 12 days, four hours, 1 minute stood for 100 years before being broken in 2005 by Mari Cha IV, a lightweight, Harken-equipped racing machine.
Kastelein matched ATLANTIC ‘s lines to the original exactly, but chose to use more up-to-date building techniques and materials,. The weight savings is a dramatic 30 tons over Gardiner’s ATLANTIC.
The first ATLANTIC was powered by steam, including its halyard and primary winches. Two large generators will power this ATLANTIC as well as Harken’s four 1111.3 and four 980.3 electric winches.
ATLANTIC was launched in 2008, and after a fit out in Holland (which could take several years), will be available for luxury charter. This splendid yacht will carry 12 guests and 11 crew in spacious quarters, a far cry from Gardner’s ATLANTIC and the 39 crew that called it home.

In-Deck Loop Padeyes
These low-profile padeyes are recessed into the deck with no raised components for lines to catch on. Tough lightweight construction carries 5 to 12+ tons—perfect for your soft attachments. http://tradeonly.harken.com/pdf/In-Deck_LoopPadeyes-lr.pdf
Stainless Steel and Aluminum Megayacht Blocks
This new line of blocks handles the extremely high loads generated by today’s large ocean-going mono and multihulls. Blocks are offered in hand polished stainless steel and Hardkote-anodized 6061-T6 aluminum. They are available in swivel block, teardrop block, stand-up block and single and double footblock configurations. http://tradeonly.harken.com/pdf/AluminumMegayachtBlock-lr.pdf
Trysail and Battcar Switch Systems
We are offering a Trysail addition to our line of Battcar switch systems. They require less weight aloft than
traditional systems because the trysail shares the mainsail track. Trysail and mainsail versions come in black or silver. Available for boats 40 ft (12 m) and up. http://www.tradeonly.harken.com/pdf/battcar-switch-productsheet-lr.pdf
Bronze Winches
These handsome winches provide the low-friction pulling power of Harken’s refined gearing systems. Available with self-tailing or plain tops, wide or standard drums, and 2 or 3 speeds with power ratios exceeding 80:1. http://tradeonly.harken.com/pdf/bronze_winches-lr.pdf
1145 Winch
This wide-body aluminum winch allows sheets to be held securely under high loads and speeds line-retrieval when sheeting. Winches can be driven by pedestal or hydraulic power and come in self-tailing and top-cleat configurations. http://tradeonly.harken.com/pdf/1145-lr.pdf
